Prenatal and Postpartum Therapy in Virginia

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone.

Bringing a child into the world is a profound and life-changing experience. While pregnancy and parenthood can be joyful, they can also bring unexpected emotional challenges, stress, and uncertainty.

As a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C), I offer compassionate, specialized support for individuals navigating the mental and emotional complexities of conception, infertility, pregnancy, pregnancy loss, birth, and the postpartum period.

As a mother myself, I understand the immense challenges surrounding the journey from conception to birth to parenting. Combining this experience with my specialized professional training, we work together to develop an understanding of who you are, your values, and how to work within your unique situation to build the fulfilling, balanced life you want.

Support for Pregnancy Anixety and Mood Struggles

I specialize in working with women experiencing the complex emotional realities of pregnancy, including anxiety, depression, infertility, pregnancy loss, and mood changes. Whether your journey to pregnancy was long and painful, or you’re feeling disconnected from an experience you thought would feel different, therapy offers a space to process your experience without judgement.

You might be experiencing:

  • Persistent worry about your baby’s health or the future

  • Difficulty feeling connected to your pregnancy

  • Intrusive thoughts or heightened anxiety

  • Sadness, irritability, or emotional numbness

  • Lingering grief from infertility, loss, or previous pregnancy experiences

  • A sense of guilt for not feeling “happy enough”

A Space for All of It

You don’t have to minimize your feelings or “just be grateful.” This is a space where all parts of your experience are welcome—the fear, the sadness, the ambivalence, and the love.

Pregnancy is physical emotional and psychological journey. Therapy can help you feel more supported, more connected, and more like yourself as you move through it.

Support for the journey.

  • Birth Trauma & Loss – Healing after a difficult/traumatic birth experience, miscarriage, stillbirth, termination/abortion, or infant loss.

  • Identity & Relationship Changes – Navigating shifts in self-identity, relationships, and roles as a new parent.

  • Fertility & Reproductive Challenges – Emotional support for those experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss, or medical complications.

Pregnancy and Perinatal FAQs

  • Yes. Anxiety is more common than most people realize. Pregnancy can bring significant emotional, hormonal, and identity shifts. Anxiety, mood changes, and even depression can emerge at any point.

  • Some level of worry is expected. Therapy may be helpful when anxiety feels constant, intrusive, or hard to manage, or when mood changes begin to impact your sleep, relationships, or daily functioning. You don’t have to wait until things feel “severe” to seek support.

  • Absolutely. Pregnancy after infertility can bring a unique mix of relief, fear, and uncertainty. Many women find that anxiety actually increases during pregnancy after loss or infertility. Therapy creates space to process that experience while supporting you in staying grounded in the present.

  • This is more common than people talk about. Disconnection can be a protective response, especially if you’ve experienced loss, trauma, or a long fertility journey. In therapy, we gently explore what’s underneath that feeling and support connection at your own pace,

  • Yes! Intrusive thoughts and Perinatal OCD can be a common aspect of Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders. In therapy, I can help you develop effective strategies to minimize these thoughts and the distress caused by them.

  • The grief, shame, guilt, depression, and anxiety that accompanies an infertility journey is so raw and painful. I’ve walked alongside many women as they work through the complications and trauma of infertility. You don’t have to do this alone.

  • Yes, pregnancy and postpartum can be a vulnerable time for eating disorders or body image struggles. Rapid changes in your body, your healthcare team monitoring your weight, increased nausea/vomiting, or appetite changes can all be triggering to individuals who have or have had eating disorders. Healing is possible as you learn to embrace your body and start to develop new coping strategies and improve your sense of self.

  • Yes. I was certified in Perinatal Mental Health before I had my first child, but after going through my own pregnancy and postpartum journey I realized how much I hadn’t fully understood about the REAL experience.

I have a busy toddler and hope to continue to grow our family. Your therapist is not about my journey, but so many of my clients find it important to know that I understand their experience more deeply.

  • Yes, when done thoughtfully and at the right pace. The focus during pregnancy is often on stabilization, resourcing, and gentle processing rather than intensive trauma work. We move in a way that supports both your emotional well-being and sense of safety. We are able to do deep processing and help you feel more healed before baby arrives.
